Estonia has a deep choral music culture running throughout its history. The legendary Estonian Song Festivals with 28,000 singers have made Estonia a truly “choral country,” with a song revolution “so important in keeping Estonian language and culture alive during the Soviet era…” words of Lennart Meri to the IFCM Symposium in 1990. Estonia’s Arvo Pärt has been the most performed contemporary choral composer in the world in each of the past five years. The depth of the choral life and numbers of choirs of all ages permeate the Estonian countryside.
